My First Christmas Market Experience

I stumbled upon the opportunity quite by accident a flyer in a Facebook group for the Rose and Crown pub’s annual Christmas market caught my eye. Thinking it might be a great way to introduce my handmade soy candle business, I reached out to Ellie, the organizer. She was incredibly welcoming and offered me a table under a pergola, which was a nice bonus considering the unpredictable weather.

Excited but a little nervous, I roped in my family for support and set out to set up my stall. Unfortunately, the day greeted us with relentless rain and strong winds, which dampened my expectations for a good turnout. Still, I decided it was best to embrace the experience and see what I could learn.

Despite the weather, we managed to set up a lovely display. I did notice two other candle vendors nearby, but thankfully, my handmade soy candles stood out as unique compared to their resold products.

While I was told the market usually draws a good crowd, the miserable weather meant only a handful of visitors came through. However, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I had the chance to network with other vendors, learn practical tips, and most importantly make my very first sales! It felt amazing to see people appreciate the effort I put into creating quality candles with lovely scents, elegant containers, and thoughtful packaging.

Overall, the experience was invaluable. It wasn’t the busy market day I’d imagined, but it was the perfect start to my candle business journey. Here’s to many more markets hopefully with better weather!
