At Serene Pahan, your safety is our priority. To help you enjoy your candles responsibly, please follow these general candle safety tips. Always adhere to any specific instructions provided with your candle.
General Candle Safety
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Maintain at least 10cm between burning candles.
- Trim the wick to approximately 3–6mm (or as per the manufacturer’s instructions) before lighting.
Burning and Extinguishing Candles
- Do not burn a candle completely. Extinguish it before it burns into the holder or, for container candles, when a small amount of wax remains to prevent overheating.
- Burn candles in or on suitable non-flammable holders placed on a heat-resistant surface. Avoid burning candles on televisions or other warm surfaces.
- Ensure sufficient headroom for heat to escape. Keep candles out of drafts, heat sources, and direct sunlight.
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish flames. Never use water to put out a candle. For stubborn flames, use a damp cloth to cover the candle.
Placement and Surroundings
- Always ensure candles are upright and stable.
- Keep candles away from flammable items such as curtains, soft furnishings, clothing, and decorations.
- Remove floral or decorative rings before lighting candles.
- Avoid touching or moving candles while they are burning or still hot.
Candle Maintenance
- If a candle smokes, extinguish the flame, allow it to cool, and trim the wick to 3–6mm.
- Keep candles free from foreign objects like matches, as these may cause the candle to flare up.
Container and Holder Use
- Always burn votive candles in suitable glass holders. Never let the flame touch the container.
- Ensure candle containers are in good condition—free from chips, cracks, or scratches. Containers can become hot; protect surfaces with non-flammable holders.
- Votive candles liquefy while burning to maximize fragrance potential; ensure they are used as intended.
Nightlights, Tealights, and Burners
- When using nightlights or tealights to heat food, drinks, fragrance tablets, or oils, ensure the burner is large enough and well-ventilated with at least 65mm clearance above the flame.
- Use unscented nightlights and tealights for heating purposes. Do not use scented votive candles for these applications.
